Closing in the gable ends on your new pole barn

One of the questions we get frequently asked is ” how do I close in the gable ends on my barn. The answer is a resounding “YES” you can. As a matter of fact we have developed a way to help you do just that. Our barn kits, while extremely simple, are also incredibly versatile.

When one wants to close in a barn gable, they obviously have to attach their siding to it. In order to do that they need something to screw their siding (usually metal) into something . The most common way of achieving this is to attach dimensional lumber to your trusses  (i.e. 2″ x 4″ s). This requires drilling holes in your trusses and can be a little cumbersome and time consuming.

Fortunately, we have come up with a low cost way of simplifying this process. We attach a gable plate to the end trusses. A gable plate is simply a steel plate that is welded to the truss. This plate is made out of the same steel as the purlin clips. When you want to attach your dimensional lumber to your truss, all you have to do is screw through the plate with a self tapping screw. It’s very very simple , just how we like it. And you can do it while the truss is on the ground which is much much easier. We have been doing it for years and the results have always been great.

That’s our technique or gable trusses. On our next blog we will go over our technique for closing in the eves. It’s pretty cool and there are no headers required so it saves even more time and money.
